About Furmint
Furmint is Hungary’s most prized white grape, best known as the backbone of Tokaji, one of the world’s oldest and most revered sweet wines. But Furmint’s revival as a dry, mineral-driven white wine has put it back in the spotlight among wine lovers and sommeliers.
Native to the Tokaj region in northeastern Hungary, Furmint produces wines with racy acidity, orchard fruit, and smoky minerality. It is also highly susceptible to noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), making it ideal for producing Tokaji Aszú—golden, honeyed dessert wines once favoured by royalty.
Modern winemakers are now showcasing Furmint’s dry potential, crafting wines with the texture of Chardonnay, the precision of Riesling, and the minerality of Chenin Blanc.
