About Bodega Catena Zapata

Nestled in Mendoza’s Agrelo appellation at the foothills of the Andes, Bodega Catena Zapata is Argentina’s pioneering fine‑wine estate, with roots dating back to 1902 when Italian immigrant Nicola Catena planted Malbec against conventional wisdom.

Championing ultra‑high‑altitude terroirs through Nicolás Catena Zapata in the 1980s, the estate revealed the potential of Mendoza’s teroir and established Adrianna Vineyard above 1 500 m as a South American “Grand Cru” (Winebow). Today run by Dr. Laura Catena, the estate merges science with tradition via the Catena Institute of Wine—studying ancient clones, terroir, sustainability, and positioning Argentine Malbec among the elite globally.

Producing Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and premium single‑vineyard bottlings like Adrianna and Nicolás Catena Zapata, the house is both scholarly and acclaimed, with flagship high‑altitude expressions and a powerful global presence.
