About Château Margaux

Château Margaux is the quintessential Premier Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux, celebrated as the only estate in the Margaux appellation to give its name to an entire commune. Located in Margaux‑Cantenac on Bordeaux’s left bank at the mouth of the Garonne estuary, the château spans roughly 262 hectares with 87ha devoted to its flagship AOC Margaux red wine, and 12ha planted to Sauvignon Blanc for its white offerings.

The terroir is rich with deep, fine gravel over limestone and clay, ensuring excellent drainage, root penetration, and heat retention—ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends. Since André Mentzelopoulos purchased the estate in 1977 and restored the vineyard, cellars, and architecture, Château Margaux has flourished under the Mentzelopoulos family, today led by Corinne and now transitioning to her children, with Alexis as CEO and Alexandra as President of the Supervisory Board. The estate produces four distinct wines that reflect both terroir precision and Bordeaux class.
