Maison Joseph Drouhin is a benchmark Burgundy négociant and estate producer, founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin. Over roughly 100 hectares, the Domaine spans premier and grand cru vineyards across Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and the Mâconnais.

Renowned for its biodynamic viticulture since 2009 and its winemaking elegance, the family-owned house is equally respected in its American venture, Domaine Drouhin Oregon. Under the leadership of fourth-generation siblings Frédéric, Véronique, Laurent, and Philippe, Joseph Drouhin creates wines that reflect Burgundian tradition, finesse, and terroir integrity, while nurturing global acclaim. Their portfolio includes iconic wines like Clos des Mouches, classic Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, and terroir-pure expressions from both France and Oregon

History

Founding & Early Growth (1880–1930s)

Joseph Drouhin founded the house in Beaune in 1880, building it into a high-quality négociant business. His son Maurice strategically acquired premier cru sites like Clos des Mouches, laying the foundation for future expansion

Post-War Expansion (1957–1980s)

Maurice's son, Robert Drouhin, took over in 1957. He expanded into Chablis and acquired numerous Grand Cru parcels across Burgundy, transforming the house into one of the region's largest landholders by the late 20th century

New World & Biodynamics (1988–2010s)

In 1988, Joseph Drouhin established Domaine Drouhin Oregon with a gravity-flow winery in the Willamette Valley. Since 2009, all Burgundy vineyards have been certified organic and biodynamic, signalling deep commitment to terroir and sustainability

Modern Stewardship (2010s–Present)

Fourth-generation family members—Frédéric, Véronique, Laurent, and Philippe—now direct the estate, blending tradition with innovation. They’ve acquired new domains and continue to elevate the global reputation of the family business
