About Piper-Heidsieck

Piper-Heidsieck is a prestigious Champagne house based in Reims, founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck with the singular aim of crafting a “cuvée worthy of a queen,” eventually enjoyed by Marie-Antoinette. Known for its bold richness and stylistic elegance built around Pinot Noir from over 110 crus—and sourcing fruit from more than 240 grower partners—the house produces iconic blends like Cuvée Brut, Essentiel NV (Extra Brut, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs), Cuvée Sublime, Rosé Sauvage, vintage releases (e.g. 2012, 2014) and artistic Hors‑Série editions 1971 & 1982.

Since 2018, cellar master Émilien Boutillat, at just 31 the youngest major‑house winemaker, has driven modern innovation while earning B Corp certification in 2022

History

Founding Vision (1785–1838)

Florens‑Louis Heidsieck created the house in Reims, aiming for excellence and royalty-level quality. After his death in 1828, Christian Heidsieck and Henri‑Guillaume Piper joined forces—and following Christian’s widow marrying Piper in 1838, the name Piper‑Heidsieck was born

Royal Patronage & Family Leadership (1838–1988)

Endorsed by fourteen imperial and royal courts worldwide, Piper‑Heidsieck became a symbol of luxury. Leadership continued through the Kunkelmann and Suarez d’Aulan families, with notable wartime resistance efforts and global brand expansion

Modern Rebirth & Sustainability (1988–Present)

Acquired by EPI (Descours family) in 2011, the Maison has gained renewed prestige under cellar masters Régis Camus (2002–2018) and Émilien Boutillat, while committing to sustainable viticulture and earning dual certifications for Viticulture Durable en Champagne and Haute Valeur Environnementale

Cuvée Brut NV

A vibrant, Pinot-heavy flagship blend (Pinot Noir‑dominant with Chardonnay and Meunier), combining layered fruit, lively acidity, and fine lees ageing. Tasting notes include black cherry, white peach, toast and salted almond on a refined mousse

Essentiel Range (Extra Brut, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs)

Modern, terroir-driven cuvées showcasing purity and fruit. Blanc de Noirs marries Pinot Noir (≈80%) with Meunier (≈20%), from ten distinct crus, offering elegance and complexity after ≥36 months lees ageing

Rosé Sauvage / Brut Rosé
